ABOUT MARIE
The joyful discoveries in music have always been a part of my life. I remember the excitement of learning my first instrument - the accordion - at a very young age and graduating to piano performance studies when I reached 2nd grade. As a young adult, I was classically trained in composition, piano performance and voice at a top music conservatory, the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. In addition to earning my undergraduate degree in Music Composition (cum laude), I was the only member in my graduating class to be awarded public premieres of original compositions by the Conservatory's large orchestral and choral ensembles. After graduation, I was actively involved with the Cincinnati Composer's Guild and continued writing and making radio appearances on WAIF-FM while working full-time.
I truly believe that musical studies helped form how my mind processes information and that my musical studies directly aided in the development of my strong math, science and problem-solving skills. In other words, the study of music transformed the way that I think. After moving from Cincinnati, I earned a Master's in Business Administration from Florida Atlantic University which I used as a springboard to enter the world of finance. I enjoyed a successful career with a Fortune 10 Company where I held positions in finance, operations, risk-underwriting and strategic management (including VP Business Development -acquisitions, mergers, and divestitures).
When a brilliant opportunity to return full-time to my passion - my music - I grabbed it! In order to update my musical skill sets-- music technology, performance practices, latest thoughts on music pedagogy -- I returned to the classroom and emerged with a Master of Arts - Music Composition and resumed a full-time musical career as a composer, teacher and pianist.
A member of ASCAP, I am a versatile composer experienced in a broad range of musical styles from orchestral art music to world music to commercial music genres including adult contemporary, smooth jazz, American song book and music for film and TV.
As a teacher, I maintain a private teaching studio which provides lessons in piano, composition, theory and voice. I am nationally certified as a teacher in piano performance by Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) and am an active member of the Board of Directors for its affiliated local chapter, the Broward County Music Teachers Association (BCMTA).
